The only time I have experienced this was with NT5 beta 2, when it was caused by the Directory Synch mechanism, not Word. It is a short disk access but does make the mouse movements and typing within Word erratic. I have turned off spelling and grammar checking while typing and doc backups. Still does it.

There might have been somw comment comparing the Win3.1 access with the 32-bit file/disk access in WfWg3.11 though. Don't forget that the WinNT tests were done with Beta 1, and beta-test I don't however know what differences there'll be between beta 1 and the final cut but there's already been beta 2.

Heaven knows where it's ending up after some disk access prior to OL closing. Any more suggestions? I've also tried the Send function in Word but the modem never gets called up there either. I've removed Outlook Fax also. Any other suggestions would be great. I couldn't fax using the OL98 Beta 2 either.

R.Moberg, CD-Player Pro info @ http://www.sn.no/~mobergru/ =/ NT 4.0 beta 2 does not include a driver for EIDE bus mastering 'out of the box.' If you have an onboard EIDE It does not have the Intel PIIX driver that is included with Win95. This makes disk access somewhat slower than you will get under Win95.

in addition to the large memory requirements (both Ram and HD), it seems that some laptops may have trouble running 32-bit disk access due to power management. If you take out Win support and run only OS/2 apps the efficiency goes up an order of magnitude. Take disk access presently in OS/2, for example...
